January 15, 2007, Boldly Moving Forward

Imagine that you live in a world where people walk backwards. Literally with their back facing the direction they are going and their eyes seeing only what is behind them.

Not only are they going to stumble when they hit the sidewalk curb, they will also bump into many people along the way. I bet you think that nobody in their right mind would do that.

The fact of the matter is that most people go through their life that way without even knowing it. Not physically of course, yet mentally and emotionally. You see rather than moving boldly into our future most of us go forward while we are still looking at the scars of our past. It's essentially like walking backwards down the street.

The bottom line here is that no matter our past experiences we have to go into every new adventure with a clean slate.

I know that the last time you tried to do something similar it didn't work - does that mean it won't work this time?

I know that the last time you entered a new relationship he/she acted a certain way and it didn't work out and oops now the new love interest is doing the same thing. Does it necessarily mean the same thing?

The slate of course is in our own minds. So just take a towel and put it in one of your ears and pull it out the other ear. Now with a hand on each side of your head pull the towel left and right - there you go "mental floss".

If only it was that easy!

No two situations are the same. Your past is only a factor when you allow it to be. Yet to make it this far in life you have been a courageous daredevil.

Evil Knievel has nothing on you.
